(I heard Brooks this morning reading from this article on WAMC/NPR, only it was extended, and what's missing from the print version was humorous and hopeful, but I cannot seem to find it online. Nonetheless, interesting fodder for a discussion on the socio-psychological trends of our nation in the past century.)
