Dr. Who? Oh, Dr. Sketchy.
Last Friday I fulfilled a year-long dream and modeled as the tenth doctor from my not-so-guilty pleasure nerd show, Doctor Who, for the Northampton branch of Dr. Sketchys Anti Art School that I started and used to run. After a series of misfortunes, from losing our original model after she totaled her car (but was okay), to me missing not one, but two buses to western ma, I finally got onstage in my David Tennant garb, did some ridiculous poses, and had a blast. The night featured myself, current director Kyle as the 11th doctor, and burlesque performer Ruby Solitaire as Amy Pond (continuity be damned!). Ruby also did a wild burlesque performance as a sexy Dalek - only she could make a trash-can shaped evil robot look so hot! Photos were taken, so hopefully they'll be posted soon. I was unbelievably flattered by all of the compliments I received as the Doctor, esp from two supernerds that had just returned from some sci fi convention and said I beat out every Doctor they'd seen there. I was a bit nervous at first, seeing as I had big Converse to fill and, oh yeah, I'm a woman. But after trying on my costume the night before (pictured below), I found it was disturbingly easy for me to look like a waify British dude. I'm not even pulling a Tennant eyebrow maneuver here. Wig: $4 (Garment District), suit and tie: $30 (Goodwill), my first experience in drag: priceless. I also did the poster for the event, which unfortunately was never distributed, seen below. Alons -y!
