The process of a mustachioed dude bound for the Quiet series. He's nearly done now, and the next post will likely be the finished drawing, though I've already started on two more. I really enjoy working cyclically on more than one piece at a time; I can be so impatient with artmaking that even watching watercolor paint dry is too tedious. Reason #1 I don't work in oils (for now). The simplification of this series, having decided to do several pieces that are largely b+w portraits, all the same size and concept, has been cathartic and I see my technique evolving with every piece. Soon I'll move on to a new concept, but it's exciting to see the fruits of my labor and what I've learned over such a short time right there in front of me. I can recognize that this is but one, early-ish stage of my development without burdening myself with the thought that I should be better, or more unique, or further along in the art game (world, scene). This is a lesson I wish I'd learned years ago, in art school, and one that I hope not to forget in the years to come.
